join us for a COMMUNITY WEEKEND of action!

february 20th - 22nd

Hands Off NYC Community Weekends of Action are designed to celebrate the joy of community, distribute useful information, and help us build a culture of defiance across the city.

Whether you’re an individual hosting an event for the first time, an organization wanting to get involved, or looking to attend an event and get involved locally: this weekend is for you!

For past community days, we have had a wide range of creative events hosted by Hands Off NYC members and coalition partners. From whistle distribution to business canvassing, comic making to a Mice vs. ICE Nutcracker performance. Your creativity is an asset!

For this round of events, we are encouraging participants to consider hosting a community meeting or partnering with a mutual aid group near you. All events are welcome, as long as they are not fundraising for any political party or campaign. We keep us safe!

TYPES OF EVENTS

host a meeting

host a community meeting

Hosting a community meeting is a great way to bring in newcomers in an accessible space that allows for building connections, meeting new people, and collective processing.

Hands Off NYC can support with printing flyers, offering a sample agenda, and potentially connecting you to host spaces. If you can offer your space for one of these meetings, please fill out this form.

mutual aid

partner with a local mutual aid organization

Mutual aid is a critical part of community care and resistance. Consider a partnership with a local mutual aid organization for your community weekend!

The list of mutual aid organizations in New York City is long, and your neighborhood’s needs may be specific. Try looking at NYCares, or looking up mutual aid groups in your neighborhood.

Reach out, ask what supports they may need, and tailor your event accordingly!

get creative

creativity is resistance

If you’d like to host a different kind of event, we’d love to have you involved! Our strength as a movement comes from creativity—reaching new communities, trying new approaches, and empowering people to contribute in the ways they do best.

For inspiration, check out 50 Ways You Can Fight for New York from Brooklyn Resisters.

Past events have included whistle kit distribution, crafting circles, comic book creation, dance performances, playdates in the park, and more. Any event that builds community and raises awareness helps strengthen our collective movement.
